I'm an early career scholar with no permanent academic affiliation. I'm interested in gardens as spaces of intellectual endeavor, in the creation of scientific networks across the Russian Empire, and in the special place occupied by the Russian Empire in the history of modern science.

I am even more interested in articulating what I think of as 'the plant's eye view' of Russian Empire and am looking for ways beyond traditional scholarly narrative and publication to explore and express that.

I'm currently a postdoctoral fellow at the New York Botanical Garden. I have been a postdoctoral fellow at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University and a predoctoral Fellow at Dumbarton Oaks Gardens and Collections in Washington DC.

I received my Ph.D. in History from the University of Illinois in 2014, with a dissertation on the botanical and medical gardens of the Russian Empire in the 17th and 18th centuries.
